This page is dedicated to my puppets and the creation of my puppets. I like making really strange puppets and using a very feminine color palette. I enjoy mixing traditional feminine values and gore in my puppet work, as puppets are usually seen as more for kids - but I think they're really for everyone.
Artist Statement
I have always been interested in art - most particularly in the art of digital painting and design. At a young age, I was designing all sorts of characters, writing their stories, and showing them off to whoever would listen. This has been reflected in my creative practice - my love for designing characters and coming up with a story to support them. While designing characters is my main focus, I also have fallen in love with puppet making, and am looking for ways to combine the two. Most of my research involves looking into cultural backgrounds, researching symbolism and meanings for things to better illustrate a character, as well as looking into the mechanics of puppets and how to design one that not only works but comes across the way I want to. A lot of my materials are digital, but when working on puppet characters I tend to make decisions based on what I already have in my possession or things that are easily found. I like to try new materials and things that people don’t really expect texture-wise when it comes to these creations. This is also a great way to make their personalities pop more, let people know if they are a zany sort of character or a more serious one. A lot of my process is preparation, really. For any character design, whether digital or puppet, I do a lot of research and make many, many sketches before finally getting into illustrating or creating my character. I like to be as prepared as possible so that I don't have to rework too much along the way. Of course, I always end up reworking a lot right before finishing anything. As far as puppetry goes, I had never really been interested in it until I realized what a puppet could look like. Not to mention how much fun they are. Of course, looking back, my favorite childhood shows were almost always puppet shows, particularly ones like Sesame Street and Bear in the Big Blue House. Through my work, I have revitalized this connection with my childhood that I didn’t even realize was there.
